I’m a creature of habit, so I get it if you’ve got your usual booth and your usual order. But Salisbury has more going on than you think, and I’ve been out there poking around to prove it.

I’ve had a proper sit-down with shrimp and grits that got me emotional and also grabbed a mean, greasy burger from a cash-only joint that tastes like a summer cookout. This list runs from a spot with fancy espresso to a place where they’ll know your name by the second day.

Honestly, I just wanted an excuse to eat my way through the whole town, and now you get to benefit. Mostly, I need you to go try the corned beef hash.

Superb soft opening offerings

Spectacular shrimp and grits

I wandered into Chicory right on Main Street during their soft opening, and honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect. The Creole dishes were amazing, with the shrimp and grits being the standout. The staff treated me like I was old family from the moment I sat down. It's rare to find service that warm, especially so early in a place's life. I left full and happy. That's pretty much all I ask for in a cafe. If they keep this up, this place is going to be a fixture downtown.

Kellyn's Kafe is only open for breakfast and lunch, which is a bit of a shame because I could eat their stuffed omelets at any hour. The pancakes are giant, impossibly fluffy things that demand your full attention. I also tried one of their homemade donuts, and the twist they put on a classic was delightful. Even when the place was packed, the service stayed warm and attentive. Quick service too, and the portions are generous enough that I had leftovers. It's a no-fuss spot that gets the morning right.
